Victoria Johnston
Textile Designer
LOCATION:
Makers Market Hall, Helensville Primary |
Victoria Johnston trained in Textile design at the University of Central England in Birmingham, UK. She worked in the field of fashion before becoming a qualified teacher in art, design and textiles.
She has held a lifelong passion for raising awareness of the intricacies, skills and practice that goes into quality textile arts and crafts. Victoria has exhibited her work in galleries and taught in schools and colleges with children and adults with mixed abilities in England and New Zealand. Living on her lifestyle block in rural Auckland, Victoria chose to utilise the fleece from her sheep for a more sustainable direction to her work. She predominantly “paints” with wool, as well as other fibres like silk and cotton in her tactile hand spun art yarn, weaving and felted projects. The end results can be displayed as an art piece or worn as a unique fashion item. Her passion for print is utilised with silk screens and lino cuts that are then transferred onto fabric, paper and ceramics. In summary, Victoria is a mixed media artist and surface pattern designer. Commissions are welcomed and requests can be made for design classes run from her ‘farm’ studio in Kaukapakapa. |
