A passion for fossicking and collecting natural treasures led Tora into carving. Starting with sanding favourite rocks then exploring cutting, shaping and carving New Zealand stones including Jade, Jasper, Petrified wood and Agate. Tora says 'the process of Silversmithing is the opposite of stone carving. With silver you build up a piece layer by layer, whereas stone carving is about removing just the right amount. Combining stone and silver allows for the meeting of the two processes and when stone and silver fit together perfectly its very rewarding. Time and patience are required.
