Cross cultural and often organic, my work looks for links between what I discover in nature and what I am continuing to discover in myself. I have always used nature as my primary source of content and inspiration. Raised in Fiji, my art work evolved to developing high quality contemporary Pacific Island handcraft for the tourist trade, using the beautiful and various traditional materials. This I taught locally in conjunction with the Ministry of Women and Culture. Supported by the University of the South Pacific and UNICEF, I also held workshops for preschool and primary school teachers Pacific wide, introducing low cost innovative toy making using natural found materials. Having returned to live in New Zealand one year ago, I am enjoying working with single strand muka, (flax fibre) to create a fusion of New Zealand fibres with the Pacific Island fibres that still remain the basis of all my art work. I hold diplomas in both Design and Visual Arts, recently participating ( on invitation) in a mentorship program with the Bay School of Creative Arts in Australia. I have exhibited in several regional galleries in Australia, Israel, Fiji and New Zealand.
