Arwen Flowers holds a Master of Visual Arts and her painting practice examines notions of personal agency through the lenses of ‘messiness’ and ‘care’. She makes gestural, abstract paintings that prioritise sensory touch as she explores their material states. Flowers utilises body-held and felt learning through her sensory-driven painting practice as she applies and removes mediums with wiping and scrubbing motions, and overlays and erases scratched or drawn markings. Her gesturally painted abstractions reference affective encounters, materially and in life.
